SYNOPSIS
The return passage to San Diego will be a more technically-focused and educational trip, one of several ‘Sail Training Passages’ we do throughout the year on both boats. We’ll spend more time in-port prior to departure diving deep on the details of seamanship, from weather routing and forecasting to knots, splicing, chart work, systems and more. Offshore, the passage may be broken up into shorter sails or one longer passage, depending on the specific needs of the crew and the weather outlook. Watches tend to be adjusted to give crew more time on deck, and we’ll sail on all points from close-hauled to spinnaker sailing and setting the pole. With consistent breeze off Baja California and a short rhumb-line distance to San Diego, we have plenty of space for all points of sail and in-depth training offshore.
typical Weather Pattern
In late November off the coast of Ensenada, Mexico, mariners can expect moderate maritime weather conditions. Winds predominantly blow from the northwest at around 10-15 knots due to the prevailing influence of the North Pacific High. Ocean currents typically flow southward along the Baja California Peninsula. Daytime temperatures average around 70-75°F, while nighttime temperatures can drop to 45-50°F. The likelihood of rain during this period is generally low, providing sailors with pleasant sailing conditions along the Ensenada coast.
