BIO
At age 20 Ryan moved to Shanghai, arriving to find a city in a magical, fever-dream state of transition. Time stood still as a lifetime of experiences unfolded. Seven years later, he finally looked at his watch and realized it was time. He moved back to California determined to maintain the spirit of deliberate, everyday adventure. Ryan learned to sail on the San Francisco Bay, inspired by a dream of exploring the world by sea. One day while driving across the Bay Bridge, he tuned into his favorite sailing podcast and heard Andy talking about starting an offshore sailing business; within hours he’d booked a berth on one of the first 59º North passages. Bonding over a broken furler and a ripped mainsail, they became fast friends and, eventually, business partners. Ryan went on to fulfill his cruising dreams, visiting over 20 countries with his wife, Kathryn, on their Caliber 40. He now holds a USCG Master and Yachtmaster Offshore license and lives in San Diego. He stays busy raising his two daughters, tending a backyard tropical orchard, and sailing his Tartan 33R.
