Ryan Finstad

BIO

At age 20 Ryan moved to Shanghai, China, intending to stay for 2-3 years. 7 years and a lifetime of experiences later, he relocated back to California to look for the next adventure. Ryan learned to sail on the San Francisco Bay, inspired by a dream of exploring the world by sea. One day while driving across the Bay Bridge, he tuned into his favorite sailing podcast and heard Andy talking about starting an offshore sailing business; within hours he was booked on one of the first 59º North passages. Ryan went on to fulfill his cruising dreams, visiting over 20 countries with his wife Kathryn on their Caliber 40. He now holds his USCG Master MMC and a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster Offshore license. He and Kathryn live with their two daughters in San Diego, where they have a backyard tropical fruit orchard and a Tartan 33R sailboat.
