SYNOPSIS

After FALKEN’s first stopover in our adopted homeport in Sweden, we’ll head west towards Scotland for the first leg of the passage south ending this leg in Plymouth, UK. The aim is to get across the North Sea before the fall storms. Expect variable weather and lots of navigational challenges as we traverse the oil rigs and depressions of the North Sea, bound for a spectacular landfall in northern Scotland, before sailing south to Plymouth.

Depending on the weather and timing, we aim to make a stop in Scotland, and if we are lucky, even another stop along the way in Shetland, Orkney, the Isle of Skye, Outer Hebrides or perhaps even mythical St. Kilda.

What to Expect on this PAssage

  • Nonstop from Marstrand to Scotland (maybe even Shetland) which is about 3-4 days continuously at-sea on FALKEN, and then south to Plymouth, UK.

  • Variable weather this time of year — everything from calms to storms, upwind, downwind, etc. You’ll learn a lot about weather forecasting and tactical routing.

  • Chance to cruise the spectacular West Coast of Scotland if the weather allows, practice finding harbors and anchoring, and drink a dram of whiskey or two :)

TYPICAL WEATHER PATTERN

Summer is over in the North Sea, so expect more variable conditions, cooler temperatures and longer nights as FALKEN heads west from Sweden. While the fall storms haven’t arrived yet in earnest, the chance for heavier weather increases as the days get shorter.
